SaltScan is an app designed to help you check the sodium content in food products by scanning the product's barcode. It allows you to make informed choices about the products you consume.

Do I need to create an account to use SaltScan?

No, SaltScan does not require you to create an account. You can use the app without signing in.

Why does SaltScan request access to my camera?

Is my personal data collected by SaltScan?

No. Salt Scan has no account and collects no personal information. Your scan history and journal stay on your device. To look a product up, the barcode you scan (or the name you type) is sent to Open Food Facts, and the barcode to Google Firebase only if Open Food Facts can't answer. Details in the Privacy Policy.

The accuracy of the data depends on the product’s barcode and the information available in our database. We strive to provide accurate information, but we recommend checking labels for confirmation.

Can I scan products that are not in the database?

If a product is not found, you can search it by name from the Home screen, or add it to Open Food Facts, the open database Salt Scan relies on.

Can Salt Scan save to Apple Health?

Yes. Turn on "Save to Apple Health" in Settings. Salt Scan then saves the sodium of each portion to the Health app, updates it when you edit a portion and removes it when you delete one. It never reads your Health data, and nothing leaves your device.
